Enna officials initiate dialogue on disability support and independent living

The Municipality of Enna has initiated a dialogue regarding the ‘Dopo di Noi’ (After Us) initiative, aimed at supporting people with severe disabilities as they transition toward independent living. Deputy Mayor and Social Policy Councilor Stefania Marino has convened a meeting with local associations, volunteers, and the third sector to identify concrete solutions and gather family needs.

The scope of the issue extends across the entire Free Municipal Consortium of Enna. In the city of Enna alone, there are over 600 people with disabilities, including 180 individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The meeting includes the newly appointed Guarantor for the protection and promotion of the rights of people with disabilities, Dr. Marco Milazzo.

The initiative seeks to build upon previous administrative efforts to establish specialized structures for independent living. While the Sicilian Region had allocated funds for this national measure—which supports housing autonomy for those without family support—resource management remains a challenge across the island. The Sicilian Region has been called to return 5 million euros in unspent funds to the Ministry of Family, with only six socio-sanitary districts in Sicily noted for efficient resource utilization.
