Enni Virjonen's strong start undone at Youth World Championships in Eugene

Finnish hurdler Enni Virjonen opened the youth World Championships in Eugene with a fast 13.36 seconds in the 100‑metre hurdles, placing second behind Britain's Thea Brown. The performance put her among the top medal contenders.

However, in the high‑jump segment she cleared 166 cm but failed three attempts at 169 cm, losing nearly a hundred points compared with her personal best. The setback reduced her total to 6 189 points, still well ahead of Estonia's Mireia Uusorg and keeping her in medal contention. Fellow Finn Nuppu Willman finished last in the hurdles (14.76 s) but jumped 172 cm in the high jump, remaining in the competition.

The event continues with the remaining disciplines of shot put, 200 m and the final combined‑events scores.
