Enrico Letta family background and biography

Enrico Letta, the former Italian Prime Minister, has a family background deeply rooted in academia and public service. Born in Pisa to mathematics professor Giorgio Letta and Anna Banchi, Letta spent part of his childhood in Strasbourg, an experience that influenced his European political outlook.

Letta has one younger brother, Vincenzo Letta, born in 1971, who has maintained a private life away from the political spotlight. The extended family includes notable figures such as uncle Gianni Letta, a longtime advisor to Silvio Berlusconi, and aunt Maria Teresa Letta, a former vice president of the Italian Red Cross.

Politically, Letta rose to prominence early, serving as Italy’s Minister for Community Policies in 1998 at age 32. Following his tenure as Prime Minister from 2013 to 2014, he transitioned into academic leadership roles, including positions at Sciences Po and IE University.
