Enrique Alfonso opens ‘Ecos de la eternidad’ exhibition in Havana
Artist Enrique Alfonso has inaugurated a new exhibition titled ‘Ecos de la eternidad’ (Echoes of Eternity) at the Carmen Montilla Gallery in Old Havana. The exhibition establishes a dialogue between ancestral traditions and contemporary imagination by revisiting classical archetypes to address modern moral urgencies.
Alfonso utilizes the allegorical structure of Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy’ as a visual method to interrogate the human condition. The works are organized into three symbolic devices—Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise—exploring themes of guilt, redemption, desire, and transcendence. Rather than a literal archaeological recreation of the poem, the exhibition serves as a visual rewriting that uses Dante’s moral framework to examine contemporary human tensions.
