Enrique García, former Paraguayan Comptroller General, found dead

José Enrique García Ávalos, the former Comptroller General of the Republic and Attorney General of the State in Paraguay, was found dead at his residence in Asunción on Thursday. Preliminary reports indicate he was found without signs of life around 09:00, with authorities and forensic experts investigating to determine the exact cause of death. Some reports suggest a sudden heart attack.

García held several prominent public offices, including serving as Attorney General during the administration of former President Fernando Lugo from 2008 to 2012. He also served as a legal advisor for the Municipality of Asunción and was appointed Comptroller General in 2016. His tenure as Comptroller ended in 2019 when he resigned to avoid impeachment proceedings related to corruption allegations.
