Enrique Márquez denies links to Alexander Vargas after airport incident

Political leader and former presidential candidate Enrique Márquez has issued an official statement to clarify his involvement in an incident at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía. The clarification follows the viral spread of videos showing a confrontation between members of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) and Alexander Vargas.

Márquez stated that he was waiting for a flight to Maracaibo when Vargas unexpectedly approached him, running and asking for help to avoid being detained by military officials. Márquez emphasized that he has no personal, political, or professional relationship with Vargas and does not know him personally.

During the encounter, Vargas reportedly resisted the GNB officers by clinging to Márquez, creating a tense situation in the boarding area in the presence of Vargas's family. When Márquez questioned the officers, they informed him that Vargas was being sought by the authorities. Márquez noted that he does not know the current whereabouts of Vargas and called for the respect of the individual's fundamental rights and constitutional guarantees.
