Enrique Márquez launches transition pact for Venezuela

Enrique Márquez, a former Venezuelan National Assembly deputy and former rector of the National Electoral Council, has introduced the ‘Pacto por Venezuela’ (Pact for Venezuela). The proposal serves as a framework for political transition rather than a formal political party or specific candidacy.

The pact outlines several key objectives, including judicial reform, the establishment of a new National Electoral Council, an end to indefinite reelection, the implementation of second-round voting, respect for private property, the repatriation of assets, and the release of political prisoners.

Márquez, who was previously a political prisoner and was recently hosted by Donald Trump at the Capitol, seeks to position himself as a viable interlocutor with Washington. However, analysts question whether his proposal can compete with the popular support held by María Corina Machado or if the pact lacks the necessary grassroots leadership to drive a transition.
