Enrique Rivas Cuellar flees to US amid corruption probe
Enrique Rivas Cuellar, the former PAN mayor of Nuevo Laredo (2016–2022), has reportedly fled to the United States. His flight follows the loss of a final legal injunction that had protected him from imminent justified preventive detention.
Rivas Cuellar faces accusations of unlawful exercise of public service and the illicit use of powers and faculties. The investigation involves the alleged embezzlement of more than 50 million pesos in municipal resources. He is identified as a close collaborator of the fugitive former governor, Francisco N, who is also under investigation regarding the acquisition of a property intended for a convention center costing nearly 67 million pesos.
