Enrique Soto ‘Sordera’, prominent flamenco singer, dies at 74

Enrique Soto Barea, known as Enrique Soto ‘Sordera’, has passed away at the age of 74. A prominent flamenco singer from the Santiago neighborhood in Jerez, he was a member of one of the most significant artistic dynasties in the history of flamenco.

The eldest son of Manuel Soto Monje ‘Sordera’, Enrique grew up in an environment deeply rooted in musical tradition. He began his professional career at age 16 in Barcelona before moving to Madrid, where he performed in renowned tablaos such as ‘Arco de los Cuchilleros’, ‘El Café de Chinitas’, and ‘Las Brujas’.

Throughout his career, Soto was highly regarded for his ability to accompany dancers, working with notable figures such as Manuela Vargas, Cristina Hoyos, Antonio ‘El Bailarín’, Mario Maya, and Eva Yerbabuena. His death follows the recent loss of other significant flamenco figures in Jerez, marking a period of mourning for the local musical community.
