Ensemble pour le Gabon opens new headquarters amid leader's detention

The opposition party Ensemble pour le Gabon (EPG) has inaugurated its new national headquarters in Libreville to signal political continuity despite the ongoing imprisonment of its president, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze.

During the event held on October 17, 2026, EPG Vice-President Théophile Makita Niembo stated that the new facility serves as a permanent anchor for the party’s organization and national debate. The party leadership expressed serious concern regarding the continued preventive detention of Bilie-By-Nze, who finished second in the most recent presidential election and is considered a primary opposition figure. The EPG is demanding his immediate release, framing it as a requirement of justice rather than a request for favor.
