Ensenada activist Marlén Vázquez Saavedra murdered by partner
Authorities in Ensenada, Baja California, have arrested Jonathan Paul for the femicide of 37-year-old environmental activist and archaeologist Marlén Vázquez Saavedra.
Vázquez Saavedra was reported missing on September 17. Her body was subsequently discovered on September 18 in a ravine along the Ensenada-Tijuana highway, located near her vehicle.
According to the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), the investigation revealed that Jonathan Paul allegedly strangled the victim following an argument. Prosecutors state that he then placed her body in her vehicle and abandoned it in a remote area before reporting her disappearance to the authorities to mislead investigators. The official cause of death was determined to be mechanical asphyxia by strangulation.
