Ensenada fishermen find practice torpedo floating at sea

Fishermen aboard the vessel ‘God First’ discovered a floating object resembling a torpedo or missile approximately 42.7 kilometers southwest of Ensenada, Baja California, on September 15, 2026. The crew, who were out for marlin fishing, initially mistook the cylindrical object for sargassum before realizing it was a military-style artifact.

The Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) responded to the report by deploying a Defender-class interceptor vessel to secure the object. Following a technical review, Semar identified the item as an air-launched practice torpedo used for anti-submarine warfare training.

Authorities stated that the practice torpedo does not contain an explosive charge and poses no risk to maritime navigation or the general population. While some reports suggested the device might be a US-made MK 46 model used by NATO forces, official confirmation regarding its exact origin and technical specifications is pending further analysis.
