Entergy New Orleans begins grid-hardening infrastructure projects
Entergy New Orleans has commenced a grid-hardening project in the Leonidas area, involving the replacement of 94 distribution poles and the strengthening of 1.6 miles of power lines. Supported by a $2.05 million U.S. Department of Energy grant, the initiative aims to benefit over 1,900 customers and is projected to save $7.4 million in outage-related and restoration costs over the next 50 years. This work is part of a broader $100 million Phase 1 resilience plan intended to upgrade nearly 3,100 structures and 63 electrical line miles by the end of 2026.
To support these infrastructure improvements, Entergy New Orleans has been conducting community town hall meetings across various city districts. These sessions allow residents to engage with experts regarding electric reliability, economic development, and the company’s Accelerated Resilience Plan.
Separately, economic indicators show a decline in U.S. consumer confidence, which fell to 81.9 in September, the lowest level since April 2014. This decline is attributed to persistent concerns regarding inflation, gas prices, and the cost of goods. Meanwhile, Louisiana’s initial unemployment insurance claims saw a slight weekly increase to 1,204, though this remains nearly 19% lower than the same period last year.
