Entergy Texas launches Orange County Advanced Power Station
Entergy Texas has officially placed the Orange County Advanced Power Station (OCAPS) into service. The 1,215-megawatt facility is designed to provide around-the-clock electricity to meet rising energy demands in Southeast Texas.
The plant utilizes combined-cycle technology, which increases efficiency by capturing heat that would otherwise be wasted. This design allows operators to adjust power production quickly to match consumer demand during peak summer and winter periods. Entergy Texas expects the facility to generate more than $1 billion in long-term customer savings through reduced fuel and operating costs.
OCAPS is capable of powering more than 230,000 homes. The project's construction reportedly generated approximately $1.8 billion in economic activity and supported over 7,000 direct jobs. The expansion comes as electricity demand in the service area is projected to grow by roughly 13% between 2024 and 2028.
