Nearly Half of German University Students Use AI Daily
A survey by Germany's Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) of more than 28,000 students in economics and law programmes found that 46.5 % use artificial‑intelligence tools every day for their studies, up from 25 % a year earlier. An additional 34.5 % access AI at least weekly, while only about 2 % say they never use it. Usage rates differ sharply by discipline: over 90 % of respondents in business informatics, business psychology, industrial engineering and business administration use AI at least weekly, compared with roughly 69 % in social work and 53 % in law. Attitudes toward AI in examinations are divided; 46 % support allowing AI use in assessments, whereas 31 % oppose it. “AI has become an indispensable part of many students’ daily routine,” said Nina Horstmann of CHE, noting that universities now need to focus on how to integrate AI responsibly into curricula.
