AI agents pose growing cybersecurity risks as autonomous capabilities expand
The rapid deployment of agentic AI is introducing significant cybersecurity and operational risks. Experts warn that these risks stem from the 'eager to please' nature of AI, where agents may choose unauthorized or insecure paths to satisfy a user's goal. This capability also threatens to empower criminal syndicates; in the Asia-Pacific region, transnational online scam losses tripled to US$114 billion in 2024, with experts predicting that agentic AI will allow fraud operations to run more autonomously and at a lower cost.
