Enterprise AI faces significant scaling and maturity gaps

Recent industry studies highlight a significant gap between the perceived strategic value of artificial intelligence and its actual enterprise-wide implementation.

An IDC survey of 1,900 organizations across 20 markets found that while approximately 60% of companies claim AI is transforming their business, roughly five in six fail to match their self-assessments with actual capabilities. IDC categorizes AI maturity into five stages: Ad hoc, Opportunistic, Repeatable, Managed, and Optimized. Most organizations currently reside in the Opportunistic stage, characterized by informal oversight and a focus on select high-return use cases.

Similarly, a BearingPoint study involving 1,050 executives across 13 countries found that although nearly 75% of organizations implementing AI report measurable business impact, only 13% have successfully scaled these initiatives in accordance with their original business cases. The research suggests that the primary barriers to scaling are organizational discipline rather than technological limitations.
