AI-driven cyber threats and industrial automation emerge as key tech trends

The cybersecurity landscape is undergoing a significant shift as threat actors increasingly adopt agentic AI to automate and accelerate attacks. Google's Threat Intelligence Group has reported that Chinese hacking organizations are utilizing AI agents to conduct large-scale intrusions, sometimes completing entire operations in under six hours. To evade detection, these actors are reportedly installing open-source AI models on compromised third-party cloud networks, bypassing the security monitoring associated with mainstream commercial AI services.

In a separate development, researchers at Calif demonstrated a zero-click WeChat worm, dubbed WeWorm, which was developed with the assistance of AI. The vulnerability allowed attackers to hijack accounts simply by placing a voice call, requiring no interaction from the victim. While Tencent has since patched the flaw in both Android and iOS versions, the incident highlights how AI can drastically reduce the time required to discover and weaponize software vulnerabilities.

On the industrial front, Caterpillar is partnering with FieldAI to integrate physical AI and robotics into manufacturing and construction. This collaboration aims to deploy autonomous systems and digital twins to address labor shortages and improve operational safety and efficiency.
