Enterprise AI shifts toward autonomous agentic tools

The enterprise software market is experiencing a rapid shift toward agentic AI, with Gartner projecting that 40 percent of business applications will embed autonomous AI agents by the end of 2026. Major players are seeing significant growth; Salesforce Agentforce has reached $800 million in annual revenue, and Claude Code has achieved approximately $2.5 billion in annualized revenue within a year of launch. Microsoft also reports high adoption, with 160,000 organizations building over 400,000 custom agents on Copilot Studio in its first 90 days.

However, significant challenges remain regarding business integration and scaling. While nearly 90 percent of organizations report regular AI use, only 37 percent report an enterprise-level EBIT impact. Many companies struggle to move beyond experimentation due to the complexities of integrating AI into existing infrastructure, proprietary data, and established workflows. Concerns regarding security and the rise of ‘shadow AI’—where employee AI use outpaces corporate governance—further complicate deep enterprise deployment.
