Enterprises Adopt Quantum Key Distribution and Post‑Quantum Crypto

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is being promoted as a way for organizations to detect interception during key exchange, protect long‑lived encrypted data from future decryption, and enable more frequent key rotation. It also adds a physical security layer to post‑quantum planning, turning fiber routes and trusted nodes into assets and providing new telemetry for security operations.

Post‑quantum cryptography (PQC) migration is advised to start with a comprehensive cryptographic inventory rather than a simple algorithm swap. Companies must map where algorithms, certificates, protocols, and keys reside, assess data protection periods, and identify ownership and risk. NIST‑standardized algorithms such as ML‑KEM, ML‑DSA and SLH‑DSA are part of the transition, which may require configuration changes, new hardware, hybrid modes, and vendor coordination.
