Entertainer Yixiang defends imitation of Shen Boyang

Entertainer Yixiang has faced online backlash following a performance on the variety show ‘11 O’Clock Hot Argument Shop’, where he imitated Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Boyang using the derogatory nickname ‘Shen Bo-yang’ (Shen Neck-itch).

Critics accused the program of using disparaging attacks against candidates, noting that while the imitation of candidate Chiang Wan-an was framed positively as ‘Chiang Wan-an’, the imitation of Shen was perceived as mocking.

In a statement on Threads, Yixiang clarified that he was simply fulfilling his professional duties and that the nickname was provided by the show’s production team rather than created by him. He emphasized that his performance should not be equated with his personal political stance and stated, “I have no intention to defame or attack any candidate, nor to support or oppose anyone.” He expressed respect for the audience's discomfort and accepted criticism regarding his performance.
