Entertainment awards: Golden Eagle nominations and Taoyuan Film Festival winners

The 33rd China TV Golden Eagle Awards have announced their nominees, introducing a new voting mechanism designed to reduce the influence of celebrity popularity. The revised system allocates 40% of the vote to the audience, 30% to members of the China Television Artists Association, and 30% to professional judges. This shift has sparked debate among fans after several high-profile stars, including Yang Mi and Zhao Liying, were not included in the top six nominees for Best Actress. Yang Zi, a previous Magnolia Award winner, has been nominated for Best Actress for her role in ‘Life Tree’.

In Taiwan, the 2026 Taoyuan Film Festival concluded with major wins for the films ‘Deep Silence’ and ‘96 Minutes’. Lin Yi-chen won Best Actress for ‘Deep Silence’, while Lin Po-hung secured his first Best Actor award for his performance in ‘96 Minutes’. Director Shen Ke-shang emerged as a standout winner, taking home three awards including Best Director and Best Screenplay. The documentary ‘A Life of Two Destinies’ was named Best Film.
