Agmer plans provincial strike as Senate debates Entre Ríos pension reform

The teachers' union in Entre Ríos, Agmer, will convene a virtual meeting on Monday to decide its next steps after rejecting two salary proposals from the provincial government. The union deemed the offers—initially a 6 % increase split into two tranches and later a revised 3 % + 4 % plan with a higher minimum teacher salary—insufficient to offset rising living costs.

Meanwhile, the provincial Senate is set to vote on a controversial pension‑reform bill that would alter contribution ages, benefits calculations and grant special powers to the governor and the pension fund president. The broader Multisectoral coalition has called for a provincial strike and a march on the government house on Wednesday to oppose the reform, warning of adverse effects on active workers, retirees and local economies.

Both the salary dispute and the pension‑reform debate have become the focal points of Entre Ríos’s political agenda this week, with Agmer signaling possible further action depending on the outcomes of the negotiations and the Senate’s deliberations.
