Entre Ríos investigates school meal fund diversions

Authorities in Entre Ríos, Argentina, are investigating multiple instances of alleged corruption involving school meal funds. In Concordia, a judicial investigation targets former coordinator Silvina Murúa and her relatives for the suspected diversion of over 103 million pesos. Leaked chats reportedly implicate Murúa and local businessmen in discussions regarding the handling of school documentation and funds.

In Villaguay, a school director has been denounced by the provincial School Canteen Directorate for irregular management of funds intended for the ‘Copa de Leche’ program. Investigations are looking into whether resources were diverted for unauthorized purposes during the early months of the year.

Amidst these investigations, Governor Rogelio Frigerio has emphasized a provincial effort to transform the school food system. A recent judicial ruling supports the government’s move toward a centralized purchasing model to improve traceability and nutritional standards, while upholding prohibitions against providing products with high-calorie or high-sugar warning labels.
