Entre Ríos bird hunting authorization challenged over scientific rigor

Professionals in Gualeguay have filed an administrative complaint against the Entre Ríos provincial government regarding the authorization of native bird hunting. The complaint, filed with the Directorate of Natural Resources and Inspection, alleges that the study used to justify the hunting season lacks scientific rigor and transparency.

The disputed study, titled ‘Informe de campaña 2026’, was conducted by the private consultancy EMAFA and funded by the Cámara Argentina de Turismo Cinegético (CATCyC). Specialists claim the report contains at least ten serious technical and statistical errors, suggesting an absence of reliable information regarding the populations of the four duck species targeted for sport hunting.

Those challenging the authorization are seeking the nullification of the study and the implementation of new, reliable research to assess the current state of the bird populations. This administrative challenge follows existing legal actions regarding the constitutionality of the hunting permits.
