Entre Ríos Deputy Proposes Insurance Coverage for Accident Investigations
Provincial Deputy Gabriela Lena has introduced a bill to create the Provincial Regime for the Recovery of Expenses for Technical Interventions and Accidentological Expertise in Entre Ríos, Argentina. The initiative aims to recover costs currently borne exclusively by the provincial state when the Entre Ríos Police and other technical agencies investigate traffic accidents.
When road accidents occur, specialized police units perform technical operations including site surveys, mechanical inspections, photographic and planimetric records, and complex virtual or physical reconstructions. The proposed law would establish a technical service contribution based on the complexity, tools used, and time required for these tasks.
Under the proposal, the provincial state would be authorized to seek reimbursement from the insurance companies of the vehicles involved, provided there is valid coverage. The bill specifies that this regime will not impose new costs on victims or third parties, nor will it hinder medical assistance, the preservation of evidence, or immediate police response during emergencies. Exemptions are planned for cases of public interest, social vulnerability, or when no insurance coverage exists.
