Entre Ríos marks centennial of women's prison Unidad Penal 6

The provincial government of Entre Ríos commemorated the 100th anniversary of the women's prison Unidad Penal N° 6 Concepción Arenal in Paraná. The ceremony was led by Vice‑Governor Alicia Aluani, Security and Justice Minister Néstor Roncaglia, and Alejandro Miotti, director of the Entre Ríos Penitentiary Service.

Aluani highlighted the prison’s historic role in the province and praised the staff’s professionalism. Roncaglia noted that the facility now houses 111 inmates, most of whom are engaged in work or study programmes, with 40 % working and 30 % studying. New tactical equipment, technology, uniforms made by inmates and mobile units were presented as part of a recent investment to modernise the service. The prison, founded on 31 July 1926 by decree of Governor Ramón Mihura, is named after Spanish reformer Concepción Arenal, a pioneer of prison‑system reform and human‑rights advocacy.
