Entre Ríos Province faces criticism over new centralized school meal program

An official report on school breakfasts in Entre Ríos Province revealed large disparities in the foods offered to students. Some schools provide chocolate milk, yogurt or fruit, while others serve only tea or mate with bread or biscuits, and a few repeated the same menu for an entire week. The report warned that the lack of a uniform standard raises concerns about whether all pupils receive adequate nutrition and called for an "equal and equitable" breakfast across the province.

At the same time, a coalition of rectors, vice‑rectors and school administrators from secondary schools in Entre Ríos issued a document rejecting the provincial government's new centralized food‑service model, which would contract the private firm Teknofood to supply meals. The signatories argue that the plan would replace fresh, locally sourced foods with industrialised, ultra‑processed products, breach national and provincial food‑labeling and school‑nutrition laws, and harm local producers and merchants. They also cite insufficient official information, inadequate school storage facilities, and infrastructure shortcomings as further reasons to oppose the scheme.
