Entre Ríos Province passes pension reform to address demographic deficit

The Entre Ríos provincial legislature approved a pension reform law aimed at restoring the financial sustainability of the province's retirement system. Deputy Jorge Maier highlighted that the contributor‑to‑beneficiary ratio has dropped from 3.5 in 1992 to 1.8 today and is projected to fall to 1.2 within a decade, creating a growing deficit that threatens public finances.

Governor Rogelio Frigerio is credited with driving the reform through dialogue with political, union and legislative actors, and with taking legal action against the national government over a debt owed by ANSES to the provincial pension fund. The new law seeks to balance intergenerational solidarity with fiscal responsibility while addressing the structural challenges posed by an aging population.
