Entre Ríos Province pushes pension reform through Senate
The provincial government of Entre Ríos is moving its pension reform bill toward a Senate vote. Committee meetings this week, chaired by senators Gustavo Vergara and Juan Pablo Cosso, will review the proposal that aims to restore fiscal balance and strengthen the pension system.
The draft declares a two‑year state of emergency for the pension system, which can be extended by the executive. It grants the governor authority to modify budget items, reallocate resources, and set extraordinary contributions: a 3% personal surcharge, a 3% increase in employer contributions (with a reduced 1.5% rate for financially sound sectors), and exemptions for security personnel earning below three million pesos. The reform also sets retirement ages at 65 for men and 60 for women, with a 35‑year contribution requirement, and defines benefit calculations based on the average of the last 180 salaries.
Supporters argue the measures are necessary to sustain payouts, while critics warn they could affect accrued rights. The Senate is expected to schedule a plenary debate in the coming days.
