Entre Ríos province raises scholarship payments by up to 670%

The government of Argentina’s Entre Ríos province has more than tripled the value of its student scholarships. Between December 2023 and May 2026, secondary‑level aid rose from 6,500 to 50,000 pesos (a 670 % increase), tertiary assistance grew from 10,500 to 70,000 pesos (566.7 %), and university funding jumped from 13,000 to 100,000 pesos (also 670 %). The provincial administration redirected about 500 million pesos from non‑educational expenses – such as marathons organised by the scholarship institute – and eliminated intermediaries to direct the money straight to students. Secretary General of the Governor’s Office Mauricio Colello said, “Se trata de 500 millones de pesos que fueron redireccionados al sistema de becas.” According to the Institute’s director, Mariano Berdiñas, the reforms are supported by taxes on liberal professions and aim to keep roughly 15,000 students enrolled. The province says the changes will strengthen higher‑education pathways and broaden access for thousands of learners.

The program’s expansion is presented as part of a broader effort to make the scholarship system more efficient and to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.
