Entre Ríos rice production declines despite rising exports

Rice production in Entre Ríos, Argentina, is facing a decline in both planted area and total volume, despite a significant surge in export value. According to Coninagro, rice exports for the first seven months of 2026 reached $281 million, an 86% increase over the historical average for the same period.

However, the sector remains in a difficult economic position. For the 2025/26 campaign, the planted area is projected at 200,000 hectares, a 14% decrease from the previous year. Estimated production is expected to reach 1.4 million tons, representing a 12.5% year-on-year decline.

While export prices have risen compared to 2025, real prices remain 50% below the five-year average. This discrepancy between high export revenue and declining primary production highlights the ongoing challenges for local producers.
