Entre Ríos school food scheme faces growing legal challenge

A collective legal injunction has gained significant momentum in Entre Ríos, Argentina, as more individuals and organizations join a challenge against the provincial government’s new school food provision scheme. The legal action, supported by the AGMER union, questions the distribution of ultra-processed foods during school breakfasts and snacks, arguing that the new centralized model fails to comply with national healthy eating regulations.

National Deputy Blanca Osuna has joined the support for the injunction and introduced a resolution in the Chamber of Deputies to review the food supply system for schools in the province. Osuna has also filed a request for public information to investigate the nutritional parameters used, the impact on local providers, the costs involved, and the background of the company Teknofood SA.

A preliminary injunction has currently suspended the implementation of the new scheme, meaning schools continue to manage food purchases directly. While the provincial government has appealed this measure to the Superior Court of Justice, the core legal case remains active in the lower courts. Support for the lawsuit has grown rapidly, with recent online efforts collecting approximately 1,400 signatures from teachers, parents, nutritionists, and pediatricians.
