Entre Ríos unions schedule general strike over provincial pension reform

The Multisectorial front of unions in Argentina’s Entre Ríos province announced a coordinated protest against the provincial pension reform. On Wednesday, union members will conduct simultaneous fly‑ins (volanteadas) in the cities of Paraná, Concordia and Gualeguaychú. A province‑wide general strike is planned for the day the provincial Senate debates the reform bill.

Union leaders say the reform represents a “brutal adjustment,” citing an increase in contributions, the possible loss of the 82 % mobility component of pensions and a broader threat to retirees’ purchasing power. They criticize the legislative technique and warn that the law could be challenged for unconstitutionality. The Frente also demanded alternative financing sources, such as a trust fund funded by Salto Grande royalties and taxes on sand extraction for Vaca Muerta, arguing the current plan would impoverish workers and retirees alike.

The protest also targets broader fiscal policies, accusing the provincial executive of following national measures that harm industry and employment. Representatives from teachers, judicial staff and other public‑sector unions joined the press conference, urging all sectors of society to support the strike.
