Entrepreneurs build autonomous refuge in Argentina

A group of international entrepreneurs is developing an autonomous ranch in Mendoza, Argentina, designed as a refuge against nuclear war, climate disasters, or economic collapse. The project, known as Rancho Wamani, spans approximately 32,000 hectares at the foot of the Andes and has seen an investment of nearly $10 million.

Led by Argentine-Spanish entrepreneur Martín Varsavsky, the group includes Argentine and American partners. The facility is being equipped with prefabricated houses, geodesic domes, an airstrip, and solar panels. To ensure self-sufficiency, the owners plan to raise livestock, develop crops, and utilize natural water sources. They are also exploring the use of solar-powered computers to host large language models, aiming to create a private internet in the event of global server failures.

Varsavsky stated, "We are already in World War III, the battle lines are already drawn. It simply makes sense to have a refuge." The project is part of a trend of foreign investors being drawn to Argentina due to property acquisition ease under the administration of Javier Milei.
