Entrepreneurship in France: Key considerations for starting a business

In France, approximately 27% of the population, or nearly 14.7 million people, are considering starting or taking over a business, according to a survey by OpinionWay for CCI France and Medef.

Prospective entrepreneurs must evaluate several factors before launching, including their leadership profile, budget, and legal status. While many opt for the micro-enterprise status due to its simplicity, it carries specific obligations such as invoicing, declaring revenue, and managing VAT thresholds. Certain professions, including regulated liberal professions like doctors and lawyers, as well as most real estate activities, are prohibited under this regime. Additionally, the micro-enterprise status is intended for solo entrepreneurs and does not allow for business partners.

Financial considerations include the impact of entrepreneurship on unemployment benefits and the availability of the ARCE aid for business creation. Revenue limits for micro-enterprises are set at approximately €190,000 for product sales and €80,000 for services.
