Entrepreneurship linked to increased longevity in US study

A study conducted by researchers at the Stevens Institute of Technology suggests that entrepreneurship is associated with increased longevity. Analyzing data from over 27,000 Americans aged 50 and older over a 20-year period, scientists found that individuals who started a business at some point in their lives had an approximately 10% lower risk of death compared to non-entrepreneurs.

This correlation remained significant even after accounting for variables such as age, income, education level, and health status. Lead researcher Cristiano Bellavitis noted that the benefits appear most pronounced among those who pursued entrepreneurship by choice or to seize an opportunity, rather than out of necessity following job loss.

The researchers suggest that the psychological benefits of autonomy and having a sense of purpose may outweigh the perceived stresses of running a business, contributing to better long-term health outcomes.
