Entroncamento officials clarify school meal controversy

The Entroncamento City Council and the Cidade do Entroncamento School Grouping issued a joint clarification regarding allegations that a student was denied a school meal due to unpaid fees. The authorities stated that no child was refused food while remaining at the school.

In the specific case that sparked the controversy, officials claim the parent was contacted and subsequently chose to pick up the child from the school. The municipality noted that while they have sent multiple electronic communications to parents regarding outstanding meal debts, they ensure that children remain fed if parents cannot be reached.

The local government emphasized a policy of shared responsibility between schools, municipalities, and families, noting that parents must fulfill obligations related to school services. Mayor Nelson Cunha stated that the municipality had previously warned that meal services would be restricted for those with unpaid balances starting September 21.
