Entroncamento Council addresses school meal controversy

The Entroncamento City Council has addressed a controversy regarding school meals at Escola Básica António Gedeão. The issue arose after a parent, Fernando Maurício, reported being notified that his daughter would not receive lunch due to unpaid meal fees.

Local authorities clarified that while the decision to withhold meals was made due to significant debt, the child would have been fed had the parent remained at the school. The municipality stated that the parent chose to collect the child instead. The Mayor, Nelson Cunha, noted that several email alerts had been sent to guardians regarding overdue payments, though he acknowledged communication failures and promised a review of procedures to prevent similar incidents.

Reports indicate that over fifty parents were contacted regarding similar payment arrears.
