Enugu Forestry Guard enhances security and inter-agency cooperation
The Enugu State Forest Guard Command has reaffirmed its commitment to securing forest reserves and rural communities through increased patrols and enhanced inter-agency cooperation. Following a week-long training program concluded on October 23, 2026, personnel received instruction in professional competencies, including rifle handling, intelligence analysis, leadership, and crime-scene preservation.
Commandant Dr. Akinbayo Olasoji stated that the initiative aims to protect farmers, residents, and travelers from security vulnerabilities while safeguarding wildlife and natural resources from illegal exploitation, such as poaching and logging. The strategy emphasizes collaborative operations with other law enforcement bodies to improve intelligence sharing and rapid response.
The training included specialized instruction from various agencies: the Nigerian Army provided lectures on joint military guard operations and command coordination, while senior police officers trained participants on incident documentation and first-response procedures. Additionally, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps contributed guidance on protecting critical national assets and maintaining scene safety.
