Enugu Governor Peter Mbah scraps daily Keke fees
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has announced the scrapping of the N750 daily ticketing fee previously charged to tricycle (Keke) operators. Additionally, the governor extended the permitted operational hours for these operators from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Members of the Tricycle Riders Association in Enugu have endorsed Governor Mbah for a second term, citing improvements in security and road infrastructure. The association also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu.
However, Chinyeaka Ohaa, the governorship candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized these moves as “last minute political gestures” intended to secure support for the 2027 elections. Ohaa argued that the concessions do not compensate for previous hardships, including movement restrictions and the death of a Keke operator, Friday Nwobodo, during a state task force operation.
