Enugu Police identify woman allegedly murdered by boyfriend

Enugu State Police Command Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu domestic violence Nigeria crime Olympic Layout

The Enugu State Police Command has identified the victim of an alleged murder as 27-year-old Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu. Ugwu, a Medical Laboratory Science graduate from the Institute of Management and Technology who had recently completed her National Youth Service Corps program, was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, 30-year-old Emmanuel Okpara Chibuike.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred following an argument regarding the source of a Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. Police report that the suspect allegedly struck Ugwu on the head with a pestle and subsequently concealed her body in a plastic bag inside a toilet. The crime was discovered after neighbors reported a strong odor emanating from the apartment.

Ugwu’s family stated they only learned of her death after being contacted by the police during the investigation. Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa has met with the suspect and the victim's family, assuring them that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice is served.
