Enugu State alleges opposition plot to import thugs ahead of 2027 elections
The Enugu State Government has alleged that opposition elements are planning to import armed thugs and bandits into the state to incite panic and create a sense of insecurity before the 2027 general elections.
During a press conference, Secretary to the State Government Professor Chidiebere Onyia addressed recent incidents involving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the party’s state secretariat. Onyia denied government involvement in these events, stating the airport confrontation arose because the NDC attempted to host a statewide campaign flag-off without securing necessary approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Regarding the shooting incident at the NDC secretariat, Onyia noted it is under police investigation and disputed claims of loss of life. He maintained that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah is committed to protecting democratic rights and expressed confidence that the governor’s performance would secure a second term in the upcoming polls.
