Enugu State begins construction of three 33KV electricity feeders

The Enugu State Government has launched the construction of three new 33KV electricity feeders to combat prolonged power outages and improve electricity reliability. The project originates from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Station in Ugwuaji and is intended to serve the Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Awgu, and Aninri Local Government Areas.

This initiative aims to resolve issues caused by the Amechi 33KV feeder, which is reportedly the longest in the South-East, stretching over 600 kilometres. Its length has historically made it difficult to detect and repair faults. Rather than simply repairing the existing infrastructure, the Enugu State Electrification Agency (ESEA) is fundamentally restructuring the network.

According to ESEA Managing Director Christopher Ezeoha, the plan involves constructing two new 33KV feeders and extending an existing short feeder from the Ugwuaji station. The new feeders will focus on Nkanu East and Nkanu West, while the Amechi feeder will be reconfigured for Awgu and Aninri. Additionally, the government plans to construct four new injection substations in Nkanu East and Nkanu West.
