Enugu State Governor highlights economic and infrastructure development
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has highlighted several economic and infrastructure initiatives aimed at driving the state's revenue growth and making it a destination for investment and tourism. Mbah noted that taxation currently accounts for less than 13 per cent of the state's revenue, indicating a strategy focused on expanding the economy and creating new assets rather than solely increasing taxes.
Key ongoing projects include the proposed New Enugu City, which is expected to cover approximately 10,000 hectares, the Enugu Ranch, a tourism centre, the Enugu International Hospital, and newly constructed secondary schools.
In addition to economic diversification, the administration is investing heavily in sports infrastructure. Governor Mbah is overseeing the development of facilities for the 23rd National Sports Festival, scheduled for late 2026. This includes the transformation of the Awgu Games Village into a world-standard facility and the upgrading of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to FIFA standards to promote sports as a significant business sector.
