Enugu State inaugurates committee for judicial financial autonomy
The Enugu State Government has established a Joint Technical Committee to create a framework for implementing financial autonomy for the state judiciary. The committee is tasked with developing a structured, transparent, and sustainable system to manage judicial finances effectively.
Inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on behalf of Governor Peter Mbah, the move follows an agreement reached with the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in September 2025. The committee is mandated to submit its final report by noon on October 19, 2026.
Key responsibilities include developing an action plan, resolving administrative and accounting issues, and facilitating the implementation of the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJUS) for eligible staff. The committee will also review existing legal and financial frameworks, examine best practices from federal and state judiciaries, and reconcile the government’s outstanding financial obligations to the judiciary.
