Enugu State launches major housing and infrastructure projects

At the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) 2026 in Abuja, the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation (ESHDC) unveiled a demand‑driven affordable‑housing strategy. Acting General Manager Adenike Okebu emphasized locating affordable land in desirable areas so residents can build homes at their own pace, aiming to reduce unoccupied estates and address Nigeria’s housing deficit. The approach was highlighted with the “Tomorrow Is Here” flagship development in Owo, Nkanu East.

The Enugu State Government also approved a suite of large‑scale projects, including a 10.5 km Igogoro‑Amachara‑Ikpamodo‑Okpo‑Amaada road, the renovation of the State Secretariat complex, 1,000 detached terrace units for the Enugu Smart City, and 18,000 mass‑housing units at Gateway Estate. Officials said the initiatives are part of a plan to grow the state’s economy from $4 billion to $30 billion within eight years.
