Enugu State reinforces ban on political posters with 50m naira fine

The Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA) has reaffirmed a ban on the pasting and display of all posters across Enugu State. The restriction applies to all political parties, candidates, aspirants, and supporters, covering materials that include names, photographs, logos, and slogans.

Under the Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency Law of 2016, violators face fines of up to 50 million naira. The ban prohibits affixing posters to buildings, walls, fences, bridges, electricity poles, road infrastructure, and other public or private surfaces to prevent the defacement of property and maintain urban cleanliness.

The agency issued this reminder in anticipation of the local government elections scheduled for September 26, 2026, and the 2027 general elections. Campaign organizations are advised to utilize approved billboards, radio, television, print media, and digital platforms instead of unauthorized physical posters. Additionally, printers and printing businesses are warned that producing posters intended for unauthorized display may lead to investigations and sanctions.
