Enugu youths protest alleged police killing of entertainer
Hundreds of youths in Enugu State held protests on Thursday following the alleged extrajudicial killing of Izuchukwu Nnaji, a popular entertainer and socialite known as ‘Stone’.
According to reports and statements from the deceased’s brother, Ogochukwu Nnaji, the entertainer was arrested around 3 a.m. on Wednesday by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command’s Anti-Cult Tactical Squad at The Bull Hotel. The family stated that Nnaji had been celebrating his birthday the previous night.
Protesters discovered Nnaji’s body at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUT) Parklane morgue on Thursday, which triggered the demonstrations. The group marched toward the Enugu State Government House, carrying placards and demanding a thorough investigation into the incident. They are calling for the arrest and prosecution of the police officers allegedly involved in the killing, asserting that Nnaji was neither a cultist nor an armed robber.
