Enveda completes Phase 1 trial for exercise-mimicking pill

The biotechnology company Enveda has announced successful results from a Phase 1 clinical trial of an experimental drug, ENV-308, which aims to mimic the chemical effects of physical exercise. The trial involved 88 healthy volunteers with overweight or obesity, and the drug was reported to be safe and well-tolerated.

ENV-308 is designed using AI to replicate the effects of Lac-Phe, a molecule naturally produced by the body during intense physical activity. Lac-Phe is known to regulate metabolism and suppress appetite. Unlike the natural molecule, which disappears quickly, ENV-308 is formulated as a once-daily pill intended to remain in the body longer.

While the drug has not yet demonstrated the ability to cause weight loss in humans, researchers suggest it could eventually serve as a treatment for obesity. Preliminary data indicates that ENV-308 may cause fewer adverse gastrointestinal effects, such as nausea or vomiting, compared to existing GLP-1 therapies like semaglutide.
